The upperclassmen on the tennis team are very excited for this upcoming season they are eager to show their improvement from last season. The team practiced countless hours in anticipation for their first match of the season. However, during practice over the summer, they found a new link to the chain, Isaac Gart ‘21.

“I think Isaac is an extremely talented freshman who can not only take this team far but also the teams throughout the next four years,” one doubles Lorcan Jamal ‘18 said.

Gart’s skills were a surprise to many of the players on the team, especially his ability to place the ball well, hit the ball with power, and put an incredible spin on the ball.

“I started playing when I was nine years old, and I like the competitive aspect of it and also just playing with my friends,” Gart said.

Gart was unknown before the summer clinics because he was homeschooled leading up to high school. However, as soon as he showed up to his first practice, he fit in the drills right way. His ability to make his teammates push themselves and try their best was clear.

Over the summer, the team practiced at a clinic Monday through Thursday, joining players from other local high schools. It brought the team together and allowed the players to get a first look at the teams they will be facing later in the season.

“I am most excited to see how much we have improved since last year from over the summer and how well we handle pressure,” Jamal said.

The team has very high expectations this year, mainly winning a state championship, which has not been done since their first in 2015.

“I think that the coaching and drills we do each day will make us very good by the end of the season and during state,” backup Logan Hock ‘20 said.
