Tailgating is back underway, the games have kicked off, and National Football League (NFL) fans could not be happier. The NFL season officially kicked off with a Thursday night battle between the Kansas City Chiefs and the New England Patriots. It was a very action-packed game, ending in a 42-27 Chiefs win, and the game was a promising start to the NFL season. This game made fans even more excited about football being back.

The season continued on Sunday afternoon. In total, there were 62 touchdowns scored in week one, and there were many competitive games. The high powered offenses were in full effect this week. I believe this year’s NFL season should be one of the best yet. It will be filled with plenty of high powered offenses and unbreakable defenses.

The rushing leader in week one was Kareem Hunt (Rookie) of the Kansas City Chiefs, who ran for 148 yards and a touchdown. The passing leader was Alex Smith, also of the Kansas City Chiefs, who threw for 368 yards and 4 touchdowns. The receiving leader was Antonio Brown with 182 yards, unfortunately ending the day without a touchdown.

Fantasy football is also back, and I along with many other students are very excited. It is finally the season of trash talk, starting beef with your friends, and getting on others’ good side to get unbalanced trades to be official. Fantasy football should be full of stars this week, including the rookies. Some notable week one Fantasy players include Kareem Hunt, Dalvin Cook, Antonio Brown, Alex Smith, Todd Gurley, and Matthew Stafford.

On Monday night the Denver Broncos squared off against the Los Angeles Chargers. The best defense in the NFL, Broncos, vs the veteran savvy of Philip Rivers and the San Diego offense. Denver shut down the Chargers offense and held the star running back, Melvin Gordon, of the Chargers to just 47 yards on 17 carries.

With NFL football back, there is finally a sport to watch than just baseball. After 217 days without NFL football, it is finally back. And yes, for most fans those were long days, to say the least. The tailgating is back underway and the games have kicked off, and NFL fans could not be happier.
