The school bell rings and young men cross the parking lot to the old building for sports practice. A small crowd heads up to the stage behind the gym to hit the wrestling mats. There is one team member who can not practice at the moment but that has not stopped him from coming every day.

Trevin Detwiler ‘19, an injured wrestler still goes to practice even after a season ending injury, a torn ACL.

“Wrestling is my main sport,” Detwiler ‘20 said. “It is my passion and I love being there to support my teammates even if I can not wrestle myself.”

Lately, Detwiler has taken on some of the management roles.

“I sometimes run the clock during half-minute takedowns” he said “I also work with uniforms, totes, and keeping stats in the book.”

However, Detwiler does not film.  One of the typical managing jobs involves filming matches so wrestlers can improve their technique. His excuse? He would be too excited for the job.

“Since I am a wrestler myself I tend to yell out advice to the guy on the mat,” Detwiler said. “I would be so into a match that I would be aiming the camera down without noticing and about ten to fifteen seconds of film are just a video of the mat.”

During practice, he points out tips that others can use during certain situations and helps them with their skills

“I try to be really supportive of my team and help them anyway I can” Detwiler said “I can show people what they can improve on then they can use that knowledge in a match.”
